Pohela Boishakh generally falls on 14th or 15th of April of the Gregoriancalendar;it is a public (state)holiday In Bangladesh and In Indian/West Bengal & Assam and is publicly celebrated on 15th of April.Aamir Fatehullah Siraji;The Royal Astrologer of Emperor Akbar’s court,actually devised this calendar. Bangla Year was introduced on 10/11 March 1584, but was dated from 5thNovember 1556 or 963 Hijri. This was the day that Akbar defeated Himu in the second Battle of Panipat to ascend the throne. King Shoshangko of ancient Bengal,Is known to have intrduced Bengali Era(He ruled Bengal approximately between 590 CE and 625 CE). Bengali year coincides with Mithila, Bihar,Assam, Burma, Cambodia, Kerala,Manipur, Nepal, Odisha, Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu and Thailand. 

All dues between debtors and creditors are settled on the last day of Choitro.For this purpose an account book known as hal khata is maintained which changes every New year; that is Pohela Boishakh,which starts with innumerous festivities.such as offering of sweets,eating of panta(boiled rice soaked in water)and fried Ilish.The tastiest fish I have ever had.Onion,green chilliesdal(lentils)and pickles etc. People of nearly all walks of life put in their best to celebrate by taking improved meals,wearing colourful dresses;men and boys wear paijama and kurta(a traditional dress of Indo-Pak sub continent. Women and girls wear yellow colored sarees with red borders;a small numbers of younger girls of -course wear salwar and kamees. The biggest festival is organised at Ramna Batamool(Banyan tree roots)At Ramna Park in Dhaka. Folk songs ,dances and plays are staged at various places. Decorated chariots drawn by horses, bullocks,buffaloes;are seen plying all over.  pohela boishakh 2013 hd images. Children wear colorful masks,some of them decorate themselves with tattoos(temporary)on their faces necks,arms etc. known as scraps. Temporary markets grow out displaying indiginious toys and different household items. People visit eachother with gifts and greet each other focusing mainly on children. On this very day every promises to guard and uplift their National integrity, heritage and unity.(It is very important to note that Bangladesh is a homeland to people of multivarious religions,culture and heritage. According to Rabindranath Tagore ‘A person feels stronger, complete and united when he’s among other fellow mates on the occasion of a festival as compared to daily life.
